Here at Hunter United Pest Control we get asked a lot of questions out on the road. Many people are curious about our methods and the chemicals that we use. We have listed the most Frequently Asked Questions here for your information. If your questions is not covered here, please also visit our Q&A section where you can post your questions for our licenced technicians to personally answer. Q. Are the chemicals harmful? A. We do not use harmful chemicals. Our chemicals are lethal to insects but do not affect humans. The chemicals that we use are also dispensed in a safe manner, for example the use of gels in cupboards ensure that the chemical stays put. Q. I am pregnant. Is it safe to get pest control done? A. Yes it is perfectly fine to have a pest control done whilst you are pregnant. Our chemicals are lethal to insects but do not affect humans. Q. Do I need to be out of the house when the treatment is being performed? A. No. You can be home. We simply suggest that you go outside while we spray inside and stay inside whilst we spray outside. This is only so our technicians can perform the spray without any distractions. Q. Will the chemical affect the food in my cupboards and the plates and cutlery? A. No. Gels are used for cupboard and storage areas. The gel is applied to the hinges of your cupboards and the runners of your drawers. This thick gel stays where it is applied and dries in the shape in which it is applied. This 'blob' is consumed by the cockroaches and this is how we target roaches in your cupboards. Q. Do I have to empty my cupboards? A. No. We drop gel only on the hinges of your cupboard doors so your contents are not affected. Q. How long until the smell subsides? A. The light odor will go away within half an hour to an hour. You can open your doors and windows to speed it up if you prefer. Q. How long until I can wash my floors? A. We suggest you wait 3 to 4 days. This is simply because the chemical needs time to settle and if you wash your floors before this time, you may dilute the chemical, rendering it less effective. Q. Do your chemicals affect pets? A. No. Our chemicals do not affect pets, humans, garden lizards etc. They are specifically targeted to the pests that we are there to eliminate. We do suggest that you cover fish tanks, and empty dog bowls and store them away from sprayed areas and wash them before refilling them. Q. Is there a chance of secondary poisoning? A. An example of secondary poisoning is where a cat has eaten a mouse that has ingested a bait. The baits that we use at Hunter United Pest Control are safe for animals and there have been no cases of secondary poisoning reported. Q. How often should I have a termite inspection? A. It is highly recommended that you have a termite inspection every 12 months. This ensures that termite activity is detected and a suitable treatment can commence prior to major structural damage is caused. If you are in a high termite area then we recommended you have it done more frequently. Q. How often should I have a general pest control service done at my home or business? A. We recommend that basic pest control treatments are performed every 6 months. Our Full House and Garden treatment comes with a 6 month free service period so you are covered for this amount of time. Q. Do you do pre-purchase pest inspections? A. Yes. We do pre purchase termite inspections and produce an 8 page inspection report in accordance with Australian Standard AS3660.2-2000 as required by law.
